Axle Rebuild and Repair Process

First, we will assess the damage that the axle has. If it is not too severe we will be able to repair the axle. Axles that are not able to be repaired will be rebuilt. Repairing the axle will be a cheaper experience. Also, it is simpler with fewer components being replaced. Rebuilding the axle will then cost more but they will both result in an axle that has been restored to the manufacturer’s specifications. Both processes will begin with similar steps.

The first step begins with the axle components being removed. They will then be inspected for damage after being cleaned. This allows us to know what components will need to be replaced or repaired. We will then put the axle on our lathe to restore the axle back to factory specifications. We will then remove the damaged spindle ends on the axle and replace them with our own that we have built in-house. In the last step, we will paint the axle, assemble it and fill the axle with fluids.

For the axle rebuild, we begin with replacing the ring and pinion. The ring and pinion will be replaced with an OEM replacement of the highest quality. Then, the seals on the axle carriers will be replaced with Timken seals. Our experts will follow that by replacing the damaged axle shaft with an axle shaft we have refurbished. We make sure that the axle shaft was restored back to factory specifications. If needed, we will use a new axle shaft in the rebuild. We then check if the rotor is bolted behind the hub. If so, then the rotor will be rotated or replaced to make sure the brake pads can be changed properly.

What might you experience if your axle is damaged?

Your axle may end up being damaged from a variety of sources. For example, maybe you drove over a deep pothole or hit a curb too hard. After the damage has been done to the axle, you may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Vibrations – If the axle is damaged, a vibration or also shaking will be felt as you drive. The vibration can be felt while turning the steering wheel as well.
  • Noise – An axle with a dent or a bend can cause the gears on the axle to become out of alignment. You will notice a grinding sound as the gears turn together.
  • Leaks – A damaged axle can cause dents and cracks that lead to leaks. As a result, the lubricant may leak from the axle, causing the axle to not be properly lubricated.
