Timken bearings and seals are the best in the business. Each seal and bearing is inspected to the tightest tolerance. Our axle rebuilds are also covered by our warranty. Therefore, you can trust that our axle repairs and rebuilds will meet the highest standards. Axles and differentials can also be modified to fit your needs. Therefore, if you want to go off-roading or are building a hot rod, we can modify the differential or narrow the axle for you.

Rebuilding and Repairing Axles

To begin with, we will decide whether repairing or rebuilding the axle makes more sense. This will depend on how badly damaged it is. A moderately damaged axle can be repaired, but a badly damaged axle will need to be replaced. In addition, repairing an axle is a more cost-effective method, whereas rebuilding involves replacing more parts and involves more work.

Regardless of whether they’re rebuilt or repaired, all of these processes are the same. Parts on the axle are removed and cleaned first. A new ring and pinion set is used in axle rebuilds. Axles are then put on the lathe for restoration to factory specifications. We will then inspect and repair or replace the axle bearings and seals, as well as other components. To replace damaged spindle ends, we also manufacture replacement spindle ends in-house. To complete the process, the axle is painted, assembled, and filled with fluid.

We use Timken replacement bearings and seals when rebuilding axles. Seals for axle carriers will be replaced with Timken replacements. Damaged axle shafts will be replaced with refurbished axle shafts. The axle shafts are inspected and repaired back to factory specifications by our professionals. If necessary, a new axle shaft is installed. To ensure proper brake pad application, the rear end rotor needs to be turned or replaced if it is bolted behind the hub.

A damaged axle can be identified in several ways

Axle damage can be caused by a variety of factors. It could have been caused by hitting a curb or driving over a bumpy road with a lot of weight on board. If the axle becomes damaged, it may exhibit one or more of these symptoms:

  • Leaks – Cracks can form in an axle and cause leaks from any damage. This can cause the lubricant to leak from the axle and the axle may not have enough lubricant.
  • Noise – If the axle bends, the gears on the axle can come out of alignment. The gears will make a noticeable grinding noise as they spin together.
  • Vibrations – While you drive your car will shake and vibrate if your axle is damaged. The vibration can be felt through the steering wheel as well while you turn the wheel.
