Timken is the best in the bearing industry. That is why we trust them and their bearings and seals in our axle rebuilds. They produce bearings to the tightest of tolerances. Also, our warranty covers our axle rebuilds. This means our axle rebuilds and repairs are something you can trust to be reliable. We also are able to modify differentials and axles for any purpose. If you are building a hot rod to go off-roading, we can narrow your axle or modify your differential.

Axle Rebuild and Repair Process

Our first step is to determine how much damage has been done to the axle. The less damage on the axle the more effective a repair will be. If it is more damaged then a rebuild may be necessary. A repair is less expensive but a rebuild is more involved and has more parts replaced. Also, both processes share some steps.

The first step of both processes is to remove the components of the axle and clean them. Then the axle is put onto the lathe to restore the axle back to factory specifications. Following that, we inspect the components, bearings and seals to determine if they need to be repaired or replaced. Our experts build replacement spindle ends that are built in-house to replace any damaged spindle ends on the axle. The axle is then painted, assembled and filled with fluids.

Our axle rebuilds will replace the ring and pinion and replace it with a high-quality OEM replacement. The axle carriers will have the seals inspected and replaced by Timken replacements. We will then replace any damaged axle shafts with an axle shaft that has been refurbished. We refurbish these axle shafts by repairing them back to factory specifications. A new axle shaft will be used if necessary. If on the rear end the rotor is bolted behind the hub, then the rotor is turned or replaced to make sure that brake pads are properly applied.

What are the signs of a damaged axle?

Damage to an axle can come from various sources. The damage could have come from hitting a curb to driving over a large pothole. Should the axle get damaged, the axle may exhibit one or more of these symptoms:

  • Leaks – Damage to an axle can cause cracks that lead to leaks. As a result, the lubricant may leak from the axle, causing the axle to become lubricated insufficiently.
  • Noise – A bent axle can cause the gears on the axle to become out of alignment. You will notice a grinding sound when they turn together.
  • Vibrations – If your axle is damaged, your car will shake and vibrate as you drive. The vibration can be felt while turning the steering wheel as well.
