Our Method for Axle Repair and Rebuilds

The process begins by assessing how much damage the axle has taken. After examining the damage we will then see if the axle needs to be rebuilt or it can be repaired. The repair process is a cheaper process with fewer parts needing to be replaced. Whether the axle needs to be repaired or rebuilt, they share some steps.

First, we will remove all of the components on the axle. We will then clean the components and inspect them for damage. If they are damaged we will either repair or replace them. Then the axle is put on our lathe which we use to restore the axle back to factory specifications. Following that, we will look at the spindle ends on the axle. Any spindle ends that are damaged are then replaced by our built in-house replacement spindle ends. Then the axle is painted, assembled and filled with fluids.

During the axle rebuild process, we start by replacing the ring and pinion with an OEM replacement that is of high quality. Any axle carriers will be thoroughly inspected and then have their seals replaced with Timken replacements. Next, we will look at the axle shafts and replace them with a refurbished replacement. These replacement axle shafts have been inspected thoroughly and restored to factory specifications. A new axle shaft may be used if needed. We will then check if the rotor is bolted behind on the hub on the rear end and replace or turn the rotor to make sure that proper application of a brake pad is possible.

What are the symptoms you may have if your axle is damaged?

If your axle is damaged it could have happened from numerous possible sources. Your car may have hit a curb too hard, or it was driven over a bumpy gravel road with too much weight loaded in it. Whatever the cause, the damaged axle may present one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Leaks – A damaged axle can cause dents and cracks that lead to leaks. As a result, the lubricant may leak from the axle, causing the axle to not be properly lubricated.
  • Noise – An axle with a dent or a bend can cause the gears on the axle to become out of alignment. You will notice a grinding sound as the gears turn together.
  • Vibrations – If the axle is damaged, a vibration or also shaking will be felt as you drive. The vibration can be felt while turning the steering wheel as well.
