At Houston Rebuilt Axles we are here to help you rebuild, repair and modify your axles and differentials. Our experts have been working on axles and differentials for over a cumulative 75 years. Our shop also has state-of-the-art equipment that allows us to provide the highest-quality axle repairs. We also have our axles for sale that our experts have refurbished. Also, we ship our axles door-to-door to your home or to your mechanic in Topeka. This service is also available to any location in the United States.

In our axle rebuilds and repairs, we use Timken bearings and seals. They are the industry standard in the bearing industry. Not only that but their bearings are trusted enough to be used on the James Webb Telescope that was launched in December of 2021. We trust in our axle rebuilds as well. So we cover our axle rebuilds under our warranty. This means that you can also trust in our axle rebuilds as we do. If you want to have your axle or differential modified for any scenario, we can help you. This could be anything from modifying a differential for off-roading to narrowing an axle for hot rods and beyond.

What is Our Rebuilt and Repaired Axle Process?

We begin in either step of rebuilding or repairing by evaluating the amount of damage on the axle. The amount of damage will determine if we should rebuild or repair the axle. Rebuilding involves more steps and parts to do. This means that it will be a more expensive option. If repairing is possible we will do that as it is a cheaper option. Either way, both procedures share some steps.

The first step we take for each process is to remove the components on the axle. These components and the axle are cleaned. Then those components will be inspected if they need to be repaired or replaced. Next, we will put the axle on our specialized lathe so we can restore the axle back to factory specifications. After that, we remove any damaged spindle ends from the axle. Those damaged spindle ends are then replaced with spindle ends that make in-house. In the final step, we will paint, assemble and then fill the axle with fluids.

The axle rebuild process has its own steps. The first one is that we will change the ring and pinion and replace it with a high-quality OEM replacement. Following that, we will use Timken seals to replace the seals on the axle carriers. Following that, we will also replace the axle shaft with a refurbished replacement. This replacement has been restored to factory specifications by our experts. If needed we will use a new axle shaft. We will then look at the rotor and if it is bolted behind the hub we will rotate or replace the rotor so that a brake pad can be applied properly.

What might you feel if there is a damaged axle?

Many things may cause damage to your axle. For example, hitting a curb too hard, or even sliding into a curb on an icy road. Or maybe you hit a big pothole or drove on a very bumpy road with too much weight in your car. The list goes on and on. No matter how your axle has been damaged, you may start experiencing some of these symptoms. If you do, contact your mechanic as soon as you can and get your axle inspected. These symptoms include:

  • Leaks – A damaged axle can cause dents and cracks that lead to leaks. As a result, the lubricant may leak from the axle, causing the axle to not be properly lubricated.
  • Vibrations – If the axle is damaged, your vehicle will start vibrating and it will be felt as you drive. The vibration will be more prominent while turning the steering wheel as well.
  • Noise – An axle with a bend or a dent can cause the gears on the axle to become misaligned. You will notice a grinding sound as the gears turn together.
