Axle Repairs and Rebuilds

An axle that has been damaged needs to be repaired or rebuilt. A heavily damaged axle will need to be rebuilt. Slightly or moderately damaged axles are generally repairable. In the repair process, fewer parts will be replaced, and the less damaged the axle is, the more likely it is repairing is a feasible option instead of rebuilding. If the axle is badly damaged, it will need to be rebuilt.

Cleaning and removing axle components is the first step of rebuilding and repairing an axle. Axles are repaired by removing all components except the ring and pinion. Next, we will use a lathe to straighten the axle and restore it to its original specifications. Axle bearings, seals, and other components will also be inspected. Any damaged spindle end can be replaced by our own in-house built spindle ends. Following this, we paint, assemble, and fill the axles with fluids.

Timken replacement seals are fitted to axle carriers when an axle is rebuilt. Timken bearings are also used on axles. When axle shafts are rebuilt, refurbished replacement ones that have been thoroughly inspected are used. In some cases, a new axle shaft may be used. When the rotor is bolted behind the hub, it must be replaced or rotated. This makes it possible to replace the brake pads correctly.

How can you determine if your axle is damaged?

There are many causes of axle damage. After hitting a curb or carrying a heavy load along a bumpy road, a damaged axle might have occurred. Here are some symptoms you can look out for:

  • Leaks – Any damage to an axle can cause cracks that allow fluids to leak from the housing. Lubricant may not be enough on an axle that is leaking fluid.
  • Vibrations – You will feel a very noticeable vibration while driving. As you turn the steering wheel, you will feel the steering wheel vibrate immediately.
  • Noise – Gears can become out of alignment when there is an axle bend. Gears that grind together or collide will produce a noticeable noise.
